The Water

Otakiri Springs is drawn from the Rotoma Hills. It is a vast native bush with a naturally clean, green surrounding. Otakiri Springs is sourced from a deep aquifer at over 730 feet below the ground. Isotope studies have been conducted to confirm the water age and source to the aquifer.

The studies concluded;

Otakiri Springs
  • That the approximate age of the water is 50 years and the water source is from the Rotoma Hills.
  • The density of human population in the recharge area is less than one person per square kilometre.
  • No commercial or industrial activity takes place in the recharge area and no such activity is forecast for the future.
  • The aquifer being tapped is a fractured ignimbrite, associated with the geological formation, Matahina Ignimbrite.
  • The bore is artesian with strong pressure being driven from the Rotoma Hills. No pumping is required at the bore.
  • The pattern and magnitude of concentration of elements is consistent, based on samplings taken since 1896 and has no seasonal fluctuations.
  • The water is recognised by an independent environment analyst, Brett O' Shaughnessy as probably the deepest highest quality water in New Zealand.
Otakiri Springs

Although Otakiri springs is low in TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) it has trace minerals such as Fluoride and Calcium. These minerals are unusual and very unique in New Zealand waters. Otakiri Springs is also high in Silica.

Otakiri Springs does practice and have certificates of compliance for FDA's and IBWA's published standard of quality limits for bottled drinking water.
